Sanada, Kazuki
Summary
Sanada Kazuki is a recurring character in Hajime no Ippo, originally appearing as the antagonist in the television special Champion Road. Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, he stands 167 cm tall with a reach of 168.4 cm. A former professional boxer who competed in the Featherweight division using an orthodox stance and a hybrid style, Sanada retired in April 1994. He later transitioned into a career as a doctor and cornerman, currently affiliated with the Kinoshita Boxing Gym after being trained by the Kinoshita coach and Dankichi Hama. Before retiring, Sanada held the Junior Featherweight Championship, which he voluntarily relinquished to challenge himself in a higher weight class. He is renowned for his scientific approach to boxing, relying on strategy and anatomical knowledge rather than brute strength or speed. His techniques allow him to exploit even the smallest openings in an opponent’s guard, targeting vital organs to cause cyanosis and breaking them down from the inside. During his title fight against Ippo, he calculated the seconds required to immobilize his opponent, a theory that Ippo’s fighting spirit ultimately disproved. Sanada can also lower his pulse rate between rounds to maintain peak performance. Despite his competitive nature, he shares a close bond with Ippo, notably assisting him when he suspected Takamura had a detached retina. As a former Japanese champion, Sanada remains a highly skilled boxer whose precision and intellect define his fighting style.
