Saionji, Houshou
Summary
Houshou Saionji is Kanata’s father and the head monk who serves as the patron of the Saionji household. He departs on a pilgrimage to India shortly after Miyu arrives at the family home, presenting himself as quite irresponsible. In episode 40, it is revealed that he met Hitome when she visited the temple and requested he take a photograph of her and her friends. The two subsequently entered a long-distance relationship that continued until Hitome graduated from high school, at which point they were reunited. He clearly loved her deeply, as he breaks down in tears whenever he attempts to recall her or speak of her following her death, which makes it difficult for Kanata to learn about his mother.
