Summary
Akira Nikaidou is the sixteen-year-old protagonist of the series, currently in his second year of high school. Born on December 11 with blood type B, he stands 175 cm tall and weighs 57 kg. Strong yet impatient, Akira often skips class because he finds school boring, yet he consistently ranks in the top five of his academic cohort. When transforming into his shadow form, his hair turns black, his attire changes, and his eyes become red. To maintain his human form, he relies on Shirogane serving as his shadow in the manga, whereas the anime introduces a doppler item for this purpose. In his spirit form, Akira initially fights with a pair of daggers, which are later replaced by a more complex and larger set of blades. Although it is claimed that he belongs to the royal line of the light and is therefore a Rei, he is actually Ryuko's successor. Akira has not yet fully awakened and cannot remember his past life as king. However, he did awaken once when he first met Kou alongside Kengo. During that incident, he took his Rei form to subdue and defeat Kengo while stopping Kou from committing suicide. Because Ryuko had not fully regained his strength, Akira could not sustain the form and reverted to his human state, collapsing from exhaustion. Kou erased Akira's memory of the event, along with Kengo's, believing the burden was too great for them, but Akira has recently regained those memories.
