Namura, Shinichi
Summary
Former Toryo student Namura, Shinichi, returns to his alma mater to serve as an English teacher and tennis coach. Known affectionately as "Na-chan" by his pupils, he falls in love with student Meiko Akizuki, a feeling she shares. Because they must keep their romance secret, the eventual discovery of their relationship triggers a major scandal that makes his position at Toryo unsustainable. Fearing he will become a burden to Meiko’s future, Namura resigns and moves to his hometown of Hiroshima to study real estate and take over the family business. He attempts to drive Meiko away, convinced he cannot allow his love to taint her prospects, but she refuses to give up. They reach a compromise: once Meiko graduates and turns seventeen, the age at which she can marry Namura without parental consent, she will join him in Hiroshima to study literature and pursue her dream of becoming a writer. By the end of the series, this agreement is fulfilled, and the couple marries.
