Tasuki

Summary

Tasuki, formerly the leader of the Mount Reikaku bandits, is a 17-year-old born in Tai-Tou within the Ko prefecture at the foot of Mount Reikaku. Born under the star Wings, his true name is Shun'u Kou. He is a Celestial Warrior known as Genrou, or Huang-Lang, meaning "Phantom Wolf," due to his wolf-like appearance and superhuman speed. His primary weapon is a flame-throwing Tessen, an iron fan that is later upgraded into a diamond fan usable only by Tasuki through Taitsukun. He is also skilled in judo, archery, swordsmanship, and briefly uses ofuda. Tasuki is straightforward, simple-minded, and quick to pick fights, yet he possesses a strong sense of honor. Though he appears blunt, vulgar, and loud, he is sentimental, emotional, and serves as a frequent source of comic relief. He values his friends deeply and will kill anyone who endangers or mocks them. Among the Suzaku Celestial Warriors, he suffers the most from the deaths of his comrades, openly crying for them. As the youngest and only son of a family with five older sisters, an aggressive mother, and a timid father, he acts as an older brother figure to Chiriko, who looks up to him and strives to become a "manly man" like him. He claims to hate women due to his upbringing, but demonstrates outstanding loyalty and love for Miaka, though he acts on these romantic feelings only once while under a spell. He attempted suicide to avoid betraying his friends after the spell broke. Tasuki was taken in by Hakurō, the chief bandit, who mentored him in martial arts. He and Kōji mastered the iron fan before Tasuki kidnapped Miaka to regain his leadership role, eventually joining her quest and leaving Kōji in charge. A running gag involves his fear of swimming, claiming to be a "man of the mountains," despite his ability to instinctively tread water.
