Summary
Rangyoku is a resilient and cheerful sixteen-year-old girl residing in a village within the Ei Province. Originally from the Wa Province, she and her younger brother, Keikei, relocated to Kei after their parents passed away late in the reign of Jokaku. Although they initially intended to leave, they stayed when a new ruler, Joei, supposedly ascended to the throne. Even after discovering that Joei was a false queen, the siblings remained in Kei and eventually witnessed the rise of the true monarch, Sekishi. While living in the village, Rangyoku assisted the elder Enho with household chores. The community was devastated when youma attacked, resulting in numerous deaths until Chuu Youshi, a young woman staying with Enho as a guest, arrived. Rangyoku quickly formed a friendship with Youshi and helped her adjust to everyday life in the Twelve Kingdoms.
