Summary
Lavi is a cheerful, mixed-race Exorcist with red hair and green eyes who strives to become a Bookman. He joined the Black Order primarily to be close to the events he must document. To aid his archival duties, he possesses an exceptional memory capable of memorizing every detail of what he observes. He is nineteen years old and typically uses his left eye, keeping his right eye covered by a patch. He commented that he could identify the key Tyki Mikk gave more efficiently if he were to use both eyes. His anti-Akuma weapon is a size-shifting hammer known as Oozuchi Kozuchi or Nyoibo. It can expand using the man or shin principles. While the weapon’s weight increases with its size, Lavi is unaffected by this change, though others bear the burden. The hammer can summon judgments with kanji possibly representing the classical elements, which can be used individually or combined. Some seals are marked with question marks, indicating abilities Lavi has yet to learn from his Innocence. His known techniques include Hi Ban: Gouka Kaijin, which creates a snake-shaped torrent of flames; Ten Ban: Raitei Kaiten, which releases immense lightning; Moku Ban: Tenchi Bankai, which controls natural objects; and Konbo Ban: Gouraiten, which combines fire and heaven seals to create a huge snake of fire and iron along with a shield-like flame wall. It was revealed that Lavi forgot he could use the wood seal to affect nature directly, such as clearing clouds hiding Akuma. Upon remembering, the question mark for that seal transformed into a usable kanji. The kanji for the wood seal often appears throughout the manga whenever Lavi summons his seals, sometimes visible behind his head. Marks for water and earth also appear among his seals. Lavi refers to Bookman as Panda due to the black circles around his eyes, calls a converted Akuma Chomesuke, and nicknames Arystar Krory as Kuro-chan in the anime and Kro-chan in the manga. He is the only character besides General Tiedoll to call Kanda Yuu by his given name, Yuu, and speaks to him outside of missions. He teases Allen Walker, whom he calls moyashi, claiming he can use the nickname because he is the same age as Kanda. Lavi also considers himself Allen’s big brother. A recurring gag involves his fondness for beautiful older women, such as Eliade, during which he yells Strike! with hearts in his eyes. While his name has various translations, the correct spelling is Lavi.
