Katsuragi, Keima
Summary
Keima Katsuragi is a seventeen-year-old high school student at Maijima High School Academy, known in the gaming community as the "Capturing God" or Otoshi-gami for his unparalleled ability to win over any heroine in dating sims. Despite his self-proclaimed fondness for girls, he harbors a deep aversion to real-world women, preferring the perfect, theoretical beauties found in bishoujo games. This extreme devotion to 2D girls has earned him the derogatory nickname otamegane, a blend of otaku and megane, from his peers. His addiction is severe enough to cause withdrawal symptoms, and he often isolates himself in his room for days to play video games when depressed. Keima’s journey begins when he responds to an email sent to his address, [email protected], unaware that it is a contract from Hell. The spirit Elsee appears, tasking him with capturing runaway spirits that have possessed real-life girls, whom he refers to as Capture Targets. He applies the analytical skills and strategies honed from his gaming experiences to solve the emotional puzzles of these targets. Once he identifies the final step required to capture them, he declares, "I can already see the ending." Outside of these missions, he is frequently seen playing on his PFP, a device parodying the PSP, which contributes to his slender 53 kg physique. Academically, Keima is exceptional, ranking at the top of his class in all subjects despite his obsession with gaming. He justified his habits to a scolding teacher by claiming he would excel in exams, a promise he kept by flawlessly predicting test questions based on his teacher’s personality. While his perspective on real-world girls evolves throughout the story, he remains loyal to his 2D love interest, a character named Yokkyun. His mastery over girl games is demonstrated when he activates "Capturing God Mode" to play six different games simultaneously on separate screens. He often delivers lengthy lectures on character archetypes and capture philosophies, presenting his observations in numerical terms, such as noting he has encountered specific girl types three hundred times. However, he remains largely ignorant of real-life matters, including food, human anatomy, and his own well-being. His name is a play on the word "gamer."
