Koetsuji, Akisame
Summary
First appearing in Battle 7, Akisame Koetsuji is the philosophical Jujitsu master and physician of Ryozanpaku. He is an old friend of Fuurinji Saiga, Miu’s father, and holds the distinction of being the first master to train Kenichi, despite being notably insensitive to the boy’s feelings. Though he possesses a seemingly small frame, his physique is defined by perfectly built muscles. Akisame possesses profound insight into people, often detecting when they are troubled or hiding secrets, and can even read their thoughts, a capability that frequently frightens Kenichi. Beyond his martial prowess, he is a legendary artisan who has mastered calligraphy, painting, pottery, and sculpting. He frequently invents unique contraptions that serve as training devices for Kenichi and power sources for the dojo, such as a treadmill generator. He also runs an orthopedic clinic where he can reset and fix bones with ease. His immense knowledge of medicine and anatomy led to the development of his unique physical conditioning methods. His medical skills are so exceptional that he is known among doctors as "The medic demon," a title that inspires fear. He once saved Apachai’s life by performing surgery on a plane, using tools from Shigure to treat a hole in Apachai’s side. Akisame holds a grudge against James Shiba, the master of Takeda, particularly because James frequently insults Akisame’s mustache. This rivalry escalated to the point where the two masters bet their mustaches, agreeing that the loser’s disciple would have their hair shaved.
