Summary
Pope Arles serves as the Pontiff of Athena’s Sanctuary and acts as the primary antagonist during the series' initial arcs. Approximately thirteen years before the main narrative begins, Arles attempted to assassinate the infant Athena using a golden dagger. This plot was thwarted by Sagittarius Aiolos, who forced the Pope into a confrontation. Aiolos subsequently fled the Sanctuary, entrusting Athena and the Sagittarius Gold Cloth to Mitsumasa Kido for safekeeping. Upon learning that the Bronze Saints were participating in the Galaxian Wars tournament and that the real Athena possessed the Sagittarius Gold Cloth, Arles dispatched a group of Silver Saints to eliminate them. However, these agents failed to demonstrate their supposed superiority and were ultimately defeated by the Bronze Saints.
