Asamiya, Ryuuto

Summary

Ryuuto Asamiya first appears in Battle 48 as a central antagonist of the Ragnarok Saga. At seventeen years old, he specializes in the Dou aspect of Sei/Dou and wields the Satsujin Ken style, symbolized by Flow, utilizing Ancient Martial Arts. Originally the leader of Ragnarok and Kenichi’s childhood friend and rival, he becomes Ogata Isshinsai’s disciple after Yomi accepts him following his defeat by Kenichi. Physically, the fair-skinned, near-sighted boy wears round frameless glasses and a white suit with a light yellow cravat. While his childhood bowl cut was short, his purple hair grew into a mass of strands as he matured from a scrawny child into a tall, well-muscled young man. Following the recoil of his Seidou Goui, his hair turns grey and reaches shoulder length, his right eye’s sclera turns black, and he loses leg mobility, requiring a wheelchair and a change to a light blue hoodie and jeans. Ryuuto’s history with Kenichi began with the latter noting that six-year-old Ryuuto was the only kid nicer than himself, though the young Ryuuto had clever perks and enjoyed teasing his friend. He once gave Kenichi a cat badge from a vending machine, which he disliked, claiming Kenichi wanted it. When Kenichi traded for a cool Yin Yang badge using Miu, Ryuuto demanded it but was refused, leading to a fight Ryuuto lost. After Kenichi moved away, Ryuuto spent money to buy another Yin Yang badge, only to realize he desired the victory, not the item, sparking an obsession with winning. As he grew older, he trained in Karate, Pankration, and Boxing, getting disqualified for attacking a downed opponent. After wondering how he lost when his opponent was knocked down, he witnessed Ogata defeat two armed men and subsequently became Ogata’s disciple. Morally flexible, Ryuuto prioritizes strength above all else. In Ragnarok, he knocked out Berserker for associating with an enemy after Berserker’s loss to Hermit. His friendship with Kenichi soured after Ryuuto defeated him, bending Kenichi’s Yin Yang badge to give it back as a loser’s gift. However, their bond appears to revive later; a wheelchair-bound Ryuuto returns the badge and helps Kenichi during the D of D tournament by defeating Kanou Shou’s bodyguards. He remains oblivious to Rimi’s romantic feelings for him, though he appreciates her efforts to help push his wheelchair.
