Summary
The proprietor of the orphanage where Anya Forger is placed under Loid Forger's care is a middle-aged man who appears constantly intoxicated. He displays a profound apathy toward his duties, evidenced by the neglectful conditions the children endure and his casual disregard for the veracity of Loid’s fabricated background. Viewing Anya as a creepy little brat, he is only too eager to offload her onto Loid once he learns that the spy is seeking a child capable of reading.
