Summary
Hikari Horaki serves as the class representative for the group that includes Shinji and the other Evangelion pilots. Like her peers, she is an unaware candidate for pilot duty but maintains a strict, by-the-book attitude, taking her leadership role very seriously. Although she often clashes with Toji, she admits to Asuka that she harbors deep feelings for him, even if she cannot voice them directly. Asuka considers Hikari her sole friend, a bond solidified after the battle with Arael when Asuka stayed with her and shared her inner insecurities. While this moment highlights their friendship, Hikari appeared saddened by the harshness of Asuka’s words. She is also a skilled cook who appears to care for her older sister, Kodama, and younger sister, Nozomi. Like most of Shinji’s classmates, her mother is deceased, though there is no information regarding her father. Her name, along with those of her sisters, references the Tokaido Shinkansen train lines, and she shares her name with a character from Ryu Murakami’s novel The Fascism of Love and Fantasies.
