Daishikou
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
During Youko Nakajima’s reign, Daishikou served as the Minister of Law in the kingdom of Kei. While the anime portrays this official as a woman, the gender of the Minister of Law remains unspecified in the novel. Aligned with Seikyou’s faction within the court, the Minister of Law deliberately refrained from enforcing laws that would strengthen Seikyou’s political standing. In the anime adaptation, she openly undermined Youko’s ability to navigate court politics by claiming that ministers opposing Seikyou were actively working against the Queen’s reform efforts. Youko came to suspect that she could not genuinely trust any minister, as they were either loyal to Seikyou or opposed to him. Following accusations against Koukan, the governor of Baku, and the Sankou, alongside the death of the Taisai, Youko took decisive action. She exiled Koukan and the Sankou and demoted all members of Seikyou’s faction. Consequently, Seikyou was forced to assume the role of Palace Administrator, while the Minister of Law, along with the Ministers of Rites and Lands, were demoted to the positions of Sankou. In the anime, the Minister of Law continued to act as Seikyou’s most prominent ally, conspiring with him and exploiting Youko’s absence from court to preserve their influence. By the conclusion of both the novel and the anime, Youko threatened the Ministry of Law to ensure strict legal enforcement and proper punishment. She reminded the Minister of Law and the Ministry of Justice that she had previously ordered the arrest of Seikyou and his associates. The anime mirrors this event, showing the Minister of Law falling silent after Youko reiterated her authority regarding Seikyou’s arrest.
