Don Kanonji is a celebrity spirit medium whose television program, Ghost Bust, captivates twenty-five percent of Japan's viewership. He is known for his recurring exclamations, "Smells like bad spirits!" and "Spirits are always with you," and his show typically involves exorcising ghosts and sending their spirits to heaven. However, his initial exorcism methods inadvertently transform souls into hollows, a mistake he remains oblivious to until Ichigo Kurosaki points it out. In recognition of his assistance, Ichigo earns the title of "#1 Disciple." Following this revelation, Kanonji’s appearances shift almost exclusively to omake chapters, where he attempts to revive his show's declining ratings by forming the Karakura Superheroes. This group comprises the Kurosaki sisters and the children at the Urahara Shop. Utilizing Kanonji’s "Golden Kanonball," a slow-moving orb of golden light that packs a surprising explosive punch, they manage to suppress the hollow presence in Karakura Town. He makes a brief reappearance during the Fake Karakura Town arc, where Aizen confronts Tatsuki and her friends. Aside from amusing Aizen, Kanonji proves largely ineffective; he only aids Tatsuki and her friends in escaping after Rangiku screams at him and physically forces him to act.
