Umino, Iruka

Summary

Iruka Umino serves as an instructor at the Ninja Academy in Konohagakure, where he is easily recognized by the distinctive scar across his face, a mark he has carried since childhood. His name can be interpreted as "umi no iruka," meaning sea dolphin. He holds the rank of Chuunin and works in an educational capacity within the village. During the attack by the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox on Konoha, Iruka’s parents were killed while fighting the beast. Although an unknown ninja attempted to drag him to safety, he initially refused to leave his post. In the aftermath, he faced bullying from his peers at the Ninja Academy, who treated him with the same hostility shown to Naruto Uzumaki. Iruka often spent his time crying by the K.I.A. stone monument where his parents were listed, while the Third Hokage watched over him and attempted to offer comfort. Mizuki, who claimed to be Iruka’s close friend during this period, only acted supportive to gain the Hokage’s approval. While little is known about his full capabilities, Iruka demonstrates proficiency in basic ninjutsu and genjutsu. He showcased his skills by disguising himself as an enemy ninja to menace Team 7, serving as a pretest for the Chunin Exam. Additionally, anime filler episodes depict him using the Sealed Bomb Square Release technique, which involves setting an array of exploding tags that detonate only if the specific target moves, allowing others to enter the area safely. This suggests a notable level of skill in this specialized technique.
