Akechi, Kengo

Summary

Kengo Akechi is a highly intelligent, elite police superintendent and the direct supervisor of Kenmochi. He made his debut in the "Death TV" case, initially appearing as an arrogant and snobbish rival to Kinda'ichi in the realm of crime-solving. Despite their abrasive dynamic, which is underpinned by an unspoken mutual respect for each other's talents, Akechi inadvertently assists Kinda'ichi in resolving cases and extricates him from difficult situations. He frequently draws comparisons between crimes in Japan and his experiences in Los Angeles, and he possesses proficiency in both English and French. During the "The Magical Express" incident, it is revealed that he had previously encountered Reiko Chikamiya before her demise, a connection that ultimately aids Kinda'ichi in solving the mystery. Additionally, in "Murder at Hell's School," while disguised as a math teacher, he claims to have worked as an instructor at a prestigious prep school for three years. His name serves as a reference to Kogoro Akechi, the classic detective created by Edogawa Rampo.
