Summary
Takaya Abe serves as the catcher and vice captain for Year 1 Class 7, wearing uniform number 2. Born on December 11 with type O blood, he stands 170 cm tall and weighs 55 kg. Abe developed his defensive skills during middle school while playing in the Seniors league, where he was paired with a talented but wildly uncontrolled pitcher named Haruna. Although he succeeded, Abe came to resent Haruna’s stubborn refusal to exceed 80 pitches per game and his disregard for Abe’s signs. Consequently, Abe initially valued Mihashi for his obedience, willingness to remain on the mound, and control. Over time, however, he grew to appreciate Mihashi’s dedication and became determined to help him win games to prove he is a good pitcher. Abe possesses a short temper and a loud voice, even when laughing, which often intimidates Mihashi and his teammates. When reminded of this, he makes a concerted effort to be more patient and speak gently. Charged by Momoe to look after Mihashi, Abe takes this duty seriously by closely monitoring his diet, sleep, and practice, a habit that leads Izumi to describe him as bossy. On the field, Abe is a driving force, shouting instructions and closely analyzing the opposition. He leverages this habit to predict which of Mihashi’s pitches will result in strikeouts, using his insights to his advantage.
