Summary

Hiei is a notably short male fire demon, standing at just four feet ten inches excluding his hair. He typically wears a white headband to conceal the Jagan Eye located on his forehead, which features a purple iris. His natural eyes are reddish, large, and slightly slanted, lending him a sinister appearance during the early parts of the series. His attire usually consists of a black cloak-like jacket and pants over a black or occasionally blue undershirt, while his hair is black with blue tints and spiked with white highlights on the front. Born to a race of female ice demons, Hiei’s mother, Hina, was forced to abandon him because koorime society prohibits male children. He was subsequently taken in by a group of thieves and learned to kill at a very young age. Throughout his childhood, his only connection to sanity was a necklace made from his mother’s hiruiseki, or ice tear stone, which he eventually lost during battle. To locate the lost hiruiseki, Hiei acquired the Jagan. Using this power, he discovered that his grief-stricken mother had committed suicide and learned of his twin sister, Yukina, who had vanished from their village. This revelation gave him a new goal: to search for Yukina. Physically, Hiei possesses a well-muscled frame combined with high speed, accuracy, and precision. He wields a sword that serves as both a combat weapon and a safe conduit for the dark flames from the underworld, a power he rarely employs because he considers it "barbaric." Personality-wise, Hiei is aloof, elusive, and misanthropic, often belittling and mocking humans and their emotions. Although he maintains a notorious reputation in Demon World as a killer, even dating back to his time as a D Class demon, he is fundamentally a loner who desires true friendship and companionship. While relatively taciturn, Hiei occasionally squabbles with and insults his teammates, particularly Kuwabara. Despite their friction, he holds a deep respect for Kuwabara, which is reciprocated. He respects all his teammates but seems closest to Kurama and Yusuke. Hiei prefers to operate on his own agenda and is known for his honor, strictly keeping his word.
