Summary
Ryokan Kurita is the largest and strongest member of the Deimon American Football club, standing 195 cm tall and weighing 145 kg. A second-year student who graduated from Mao 13th Middle School, he plays as the center, defensive tackle, and long snapper, wearing jersey number 77. Kurita resides in a temple with his father, the director of a Buddhist sect, who overfed him in an attempt to make him strong, resulting in his massive physique. True to his name, his head is shaped like a chestnut, and he possesses a heart that is even bigger than his body. Known for his sweet and kind nature, he became Sena’s second friend after joining Deimon High School. Before joining Deimon, Kurita attended Shinryuji but was forced out when Kongo Agon was selected for the special athletic scholarship instead. He arrived at Deimon alongside Hiruma and Musashi, sharing Hiruma’s obsessive passion for American football. Although he does not match Hiruma’s demonic extremes, Kurita is so enthusiastic that he sometimes starts morning practice at 2:00 AM. His biggest dream is to compete in the Christmas Bowl. He treats Komusubi as his apprentice, practicing with him whenever possible. Despite his intimidating strength, which allowed him to accidentally destroy a small truck by hugging it, Kurita is somewhat dim-witted, nearly exposing Sena’s other identity. He usually maintains a comical demeanor but becomes dangerous when fired up, often stopping fights among Deimon members by flattening everyone involved. During games, especially after Musashi rejoins the team, Kurita reveals an alternate personality. His face changes dramatically, with inflamed, larger eyes, thicker eyebrows, and a tightened expression. In this state, his strength increases significantly, though he can quickly revert to his normal self if happy, only to shift back again as the game continues.
