Yoshida, Kouji
Summary
Kouji Yoshida, born on June 23, 1978, is currently forty years old and serves as the dedicated editor for Hiramaru Kazuya. During a meeting with the chief editor, Yoshida advocated for Hiramaru’s exceptional talent, a pivotal argument that ultimately secured the serialization of the artist’s work. Holding the rank of Captain, Yoshida leads his team, which includes editors like Yamahisa, and possesses the authority to sit in on serialization meetings. He demonstrates a unique ability to look past Hiramaru’s eccentric personality to focus on the creative output. Yoshida is arguably the most manipulative editor depicted in the series. Recognizing that strict pressure is ineffective for maintaining a long-running or efficient series, he resorts to bribing Hiramaru with expensive items or information regarding Aoki Ko. These bribes are strategically used to motivate Hiramaru to return to work and repay the debts incurred from purchasing such goods. Yoshida sustains this dynamic for an extended period, spanning the two hundred chapters of Otters 11. His tactics grow more desperate when he threatens to have Hiramaru disassociated from Shueisha if the series is not serialized again after Otters 11 is canceled. Rationality is central to Yoshida’s character. He deduces that Niizuma Eiji was responsible for the artwork in +Natural and correctly predicts that Hiramaru’s manga quality will plummet if he asks Aoki Ko out and faces rejection, as he assumes the proposal will be denied. However, his reasoning has limits; he is deeply surprised when Aoki accepts Hiramaru’s proposal. Ironically, this unexpected acceptance eliminates much of Hiramaru’s negativity but subsequently leads to a decline in the quality of his manga.
