Summary

Yuusuke Urameshi stands at fourteen years old when the story begins, growing to eighteen by its conclusion. Visually, he is characterized by short black hair styled with gel into slight spikes, save for a few small bangs left down, and brown eyes. He typically appears quite skinny, a stark contrast to his unusual strength, and was notably short early in the narrative, even shorter than Keiko. While Sarayashiki Junior High mandates a blue uniform, Yuusuke wears an identically designed green one as a direct act of rebellion against the school’s strict dress code. Although his wardrobe shifts throughout the series, he generally wears some form of fighter’s garb. Raised in a neglectful environment with an absent father and a mother who is often drunk or partying, Yuusuke developed a short temper and impulsiveness. He enjoys intimidating those who fear him and possesses a strong desire to fight, a trait that becomes more pronounced as the series progresses. Despite this love for brawls, he surprisingly dislikes killing if he can avoid it. He is frequently noted for being unintelligent, and at times, just plain stupid. Although feared by most students and severely disliked by nearly all teachers, Yuusuke is generally misunderstood. Keiko Yukimura is one of the few who recognizes his underlying kindness and sympathizes with his life struggles. The two quickly develop strong feelings for each other, with Yuusuke becoming fiercely protective of her and constantly worrying about her well-being. His relationship with Kuwabara evolves from initial dislike to a mutual bond and respect, making Kuwabara the only person who truly understands him. Yuusuke shares a serious rivalry with Hiei, occasionally feeling intimidated by the latter’s remarkable skills, yet they hold deep respect for one another and are willing to risk their lives to help each other. He is also very close to Kurama, respecting his wisdom and often looking to him for leadership advice when uncertain of his next move.
