Summary
Named after the Greek mythological guardian of the underworld, Cerberus serves as Hiruma’s ferocious canine companion. Although the dog possesses remarkable intelligence, his actions are primarily dictated by his insatiable appetite. Hiruma frequently employs Cerberus to intimidate his players into rigorous training and to locate missing club members. However, a Q&A segment in the manga reveals that the Devil Bat claims Cerberus is merely a stray who remains by his side for the convenience of obtaining food. During Hiruma’s middle school years, the dog appeared at Deimon’s football field. Impressed by the look in Cerberus’s eyes, Hiruma challenged the animal to a confrontation. While Cerberus managed to tear off one of Hiruma’s sleeves, the pitcher swiftly secured a spiked collar around the dog’s neck, securing his victory. Kurita notes that Hiruma grew fond of the animal, and Cerberus has since obeyed every command. Despite Hiruma’s harsh demeanor, episode 27 demonstrates that he genuinely cares for the dog. Cerberus exhibits anthropomorphic traits, capable of standing on his hind legs and using his front paws like hands. He is also able to speak. According to chapter 251 of the manga, the dog possesses significant strength, with the ability to bench press 120kg, or approximately 264 lbs.
