King Bradley serves as the Führer of Amestris, holding direct command over all state alchemists. He typically projects a calm and benevolent image, even when ordering troops into combat, a demeanor that baffles his subordinates and leads Roy Mustang to remark that he cannot figure him out. He is married to an unnamed wife and is the father of Selim. In the 2003 anime adaptation, Bradley acts as the country's president. Despite appearing carefree, he possesses a sharp mind and a volatile personality. He is responsible for ending the Ishval Civil War by deploying State Alchemists to conclude the conflict. The manga and 2009 anime series portray him as having a quirky sense of humor and a habit of performing unusual actions for a man of his rank. These antics include joking with subordinates, disguising himself as a tourist to meet Izumi Curtis in Dublith, giving watermelons as gifts to Edward Elric, abandoning official duties to visit the Elric brothers in the hospital, and escaping his attendants by leaping out of a window.
