Summary
Tsubasa Kurenai is a persistent suitor of Ukyo Kuonji who tracked her down to Furinkan after she transferred from her previous school. Although he presents himself as female, Tsubasa is actually a male cross-dresser, similar to many of Ukyo’s other admirers. Before the series begins, he attended the same all-boys school as Ukyo, where she was disguised as a boy. Tsubasa quickly developed romantic feelings for her and showered her with gifts, but Ukyo did not reciprocate. Even after Ukyo departed to search for Ranma, Tsubasa continued to send her numerous love letters. In response, Ukyo sent him a letter detailing her engagement to Ranma, complete with a photograph of Ranma in her female form. Eventually, Tsubasa convinced Ukyo to allow him to help deliver okonomiyaki for her restaurant, a decision she made largely because it cost her very little. During these deliveries, Maomolin, who works part-time at Shampoo’s Cat Café stall, fell instantly in love with him. Maomolin frequently chases Tsubasa around, demanding that he become her bride, much to Tsubasa’s annoyance. Oddly enough, even after Tsubasa reveals his true gender, Maomolin states that it does not matter to her because nobody is perfect, and the pursuit continues. Tsubasa also employs various disguises, primarily during battles, though he sometimes uses them simply to make a dramatic entrance. He has successfully disguised himself as a tree, a letterbox, a trash can, a vending machine, a washing machine, and even Ucchan’s Okonomiyaki sign, among other objects.
