Summary
Daniel Dickens is a counselor consumed by an intense fixation on eyes, particularly the vacant blue gaze of Ray. This obsession stems from a traumatic childhood marked by bullying due to his missing right eye, a condition that also drove a wedge between his parents, leading to their divorce and his mother’s eventual suicide. Following these events, Dickens found beauty in the lifeless, blank eyes of his mother and pursued a career in counseling in hopes of finding eyes that could fulfill his dark desires. Before the main narrative, he worked as a counselor for prisoners and met Gray, who offered him the position of floor master. Seeing this as an opportunity to satisfy his obsession, Dickens accepted and used his new authority to bring Ray into Gray’s experiment, appointing her as the floor master of B1 so he could remain close to her. His scheme ends when Gray kills him while pursuing Ray.
