Summary
Voiced by Chika Sakamoto in the Japanese version and Cindy Robinson in the English dub, Martin was among the children Johan instructed in his so-called "special game." This twisted exercise required two participants to stand on a building's ledge with their eyes closed, walking toward each other until they could attempt to push the other off. Survival, rather than merely avoiding a fall, determined the victor. Martin ended up hospitalized after failing to remain on the rooftop during the activity. Although Dr. Reichwein visited him regularly, the psychologist often spent more time comforting Martin’s mother than interacting with the boy himself. Dieter eventually sneaked into the hospital room, and the pair escaped together. As they walked, Martin expressed that nothing in the world was interesting except for the "game," and he attempted to explain its rules to Dieter. Since Dieter did not understand, Martin took him to a rooftop to demonstrate, trying to coerce Dieter into playing a match. Dieter refused, stating he valued life’s simple pleasures and his loved ones too much to risk losing everything in an instant. Following this exchange, Martin nearly fell from the roof, but Dieter rescued him. This event triggered a realization in Martin that he did not want to die, leading him to abandon the "game."
