Summary
Suzuna is a petite, blue-haired girl standing 151 cm tall who is almost always seen wearing rollerblades. Born on March 31, she self-appointed herself as the Cheerleading Captain. Her journey began in the United States, where she hitched a ride with a biker gang after arriving there. Sena first encountered her after getting lost during the Devil Bats' grueling Death March, where he was surrounded by American bikers. Unable to communicate effectively with them, Sena misinterpreted their mention of a "Japanese girl" and a "Football player" as references to Mamori and his brother Natsuhiko, respectively. In reality, the bikers were talking about Suzuna and Natsuhiko. Suzuna was searching for her brother, while Sena was looking for the girl, leading to a mix-up where they assumed each other's identities. The bikers, assuming they were a couple, enthusiastically cheered them on to kiss, though no romantic relationship existed between them. After reuniting with Natsuhiko, Suzuna angrily beat him for squandering their family savings to fly to America. She also witnessed Sena’s performance as Eyeshield 21. When Natsuhiko failed to make the American football team he sought but accepted Sena’s offer to join the Devil Bats, Suzuna followed the team back to Japan. Despite not being a student at Deimon High, she joined the cheerleading squad, becoming its captain alongside the existing all-American members, thus adding a second female member to the group. Physically resembling a young child, Suzuna is often subjected to merciless teasing. She dislikes being called by her surname or addressed with the honorific "san," but she is fond of the term "Suzuna-ojouchan" used by Doboroku. In the anime adaptation, her introduction occurs earlier in the timeline. She initially works as a part-time reporter for American Football Monthly, hoping to uncover the identity of Eyeshield 21 because she suspects he is her long-lost brother. However, upon realizing that Eyeshield 21 is too short to be Natsuhiko, she departs for America following a tip from Hiruma. She eventually crosses paths with the Devil Bats during their Death March training.
