Kaka

Kaka

Summary

Kaka served as the former Royal Consort of Hou, married to Chuutatsu and mother to Shoukei. While Chuutatsu was widely despised for his cruelty, Gekkei, the governor of Hou's Kei Province, recognized that the king’s downfall stemmed from his failure to realize that his harsh laws were harming his subjects rather than cultivating them as intended. Gekkei’s assessment of Kaka was far more severe. He understood that although she projected an image of piety and humility before her husband to meet his expectations of an ideal citizen, she was actually a deeply extravagant and decadent woman. Aware that her husband’s statutes were too severe, she chose not to admonish him but instead exploited them to satisfy her own selfish desires. She ensured her daughter enjoyed absolute comfort and wielded her influence to secretly eliminate anyone she viewed as a threat to herself or her child. Consequently, she brought false charges and ordered the executions of numerous innocent individuals.
