Shanks

Summary

Shanks, known as the Red-Haired Shanks, is a legendary pirate and the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates. Standing as one of the Four Emperors in the second half of the Grand Line, he holds a position of immense power and respect. He is also the childhood hero of Monkey D. Luffy and a former member of Gol D. Roger’s Crew. Despite his fearsome reputation, Shanks possesses a soft and friendly nature, which contrasts with his status as a Yonko. He is highly respected by nearly everyone in the world, yet he rarely engages in combat, with his first major fight being against Whitebeard. Although he makes few physical appearances in the story, he is frequently featured in the anime’s opening and closing themes. Physically, Shanks is distinguished by his vibrant red hair, which earned him his nickname. He has three scars across his left eye, inflicted by Blackbeard long ago, and is missing his left arm, which he sacrificed to save Luffy from a Sea King. His attire typically consists of a long black cape draped over his shoulders, trousers cut below the knee, and sandals. Before meeting Luffy, he wore a straw hat that he had kept for many years. When not traveling, Shanks and his crew are often found partying and drinking, as hosting banquets and celebrating are the Captain’s favorite pastimes. According to the mangaka, Shanks is the character who most resembles the author due to his fun-loving and party-oriented personality.
