Summary
Born and raised within the confines of the floating colony, Brad harbored deep-seated resentment toward ground-dwellers like Vash and Wolfwood due to his isolated upbringing. His romantic affections were directed toward Jessica, a fellow citizen of the sky society, though she remained infatuated with Vash, leaving Brad’s feelings unrequited. In the original anime adaptation, Brad temporarily aids Vash and Wolfwood in repelling the invaders who attacked his home, yet the colony ultimately crashes to the surface. This catastrophe fuels the anger of the sky people against Vash, but Brad eventually redeems himself by assuming a leadership role. He delivers a defiant speech asserting that the city was always destined to fall and praising Vash for having the bravery to confront their threats rather than cowering in hiding. During the events of Trigun Maximum, Brad operates as a punk associate of the Doctor, the artisan behind Vash’s combat gear. While he was once deeply attached to Vash during their childhood, the traumatic events of July and the resulting crater on the fifth moon shifted his perspective. He began viewing Vash as a danger, criticizing his clumsy problem-solving methods and losing his trust. However, as the narrative unfolds, Brad matures and eventually joins Vash in his battle against Knives. In the Trigun Stampede timeline, Brad is older than Vash and serves as a companion to Luida and Rem, handling technical repairs for their vessels. Although he initially distrusts Vash upon their first meeting, he gradually assumes a protective, big-brotherly role. Following the incident where Knives severs Vash’s left arm, Brad utilizes lost technology to craft a prosthesis for him. As time passes and Brad ages alongside Luida, he remains steadfast in his readiness to support Vash whenever needed.
