Summary
Yasunori Ryūgū is the father of Rena and the husband of Mrs. Ryūgū, who initially worked as a designer at a small clothing manufactory in Okinomiya. The couple married and resided in a small apartment there before moving into the home of Rena’s paternal grandmother upon the pregnancy. As the manufacturer they worked for faced financial difficulties, Mrs. Ryūgū considered going independent with other designers but ultimately accepted an offer from a design office in Ibaraki. The firm had high expectations for her talent and promised her a responsible project. Consequently, the family relocated to Ibaraki, leaving Mr. Ryūgū to abandon his employment and assume the role of a homemaker. However, Mr. Ryūgū struggled significantly in his new domestic duties, lacking skills such as cooking. He initially took a clerical position at a small company but frequently changed jobs. Due to his inability to manage the household effectively, Rena began taking over his chores. Mrs. Ryūgū frequently sent lawyers to the Ibaraki household but refused to communicate with them or meet Mr. Ryūgū, even by phone. This situation led to depression for both father and daughter. During a rare meeting, Rena attempted to deliver a letter from her father, but Mrs. Ryūgū refused to read it, marking the final time she saw Rena. In the Tsumihoroboshi-hen arc, Mr. Ryūgū begins a relationship with Mamiya Rina, who serves as the private manager at the Blue Mermaid, a gentleman’s club in Okinomiya. Unaware of her connection to Hōjō Teppei, he falls victim to a badger game trap. It is implied that they slept together, and Rina fabricates a pregnancy to lure him into marriage. Before Rina can execute the final stage of her plan by having Teppei interrupt them in bed, Rena murders Rina. Teppei still attacks Mr. Ryūgū late at night and is subsequently killed as well. In the Minagoroshi-hen arc, a similar scenario unfolds, but Rena chooses to discuss the issue with her father rather than acting alone. Additionally, Mr. Ryūgū secures a new job during this storyline.
