Yashiro, Kiyoharu
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Kiyoharu Yashiro is a fifteen-year-old professional Go player affiliated with the Kansai Go institute. Having begun his studies at the age of ten, he achieved professional status by fifteen, earning recognition from his instructor and the institute’s regular members as a prodigy. Despite this acclaim, he faces significant opposition from his parents, who dismiss Go as a futile pursuit and insist he continue his high school education. Undeterred by this familial conflict, Yashiro is determined to establish himself as a successful player to validate his career choice. His gameplay is widely regarded as unconventional and reckless, characterized by the frequent use of rare and risky openings like the Tengen and 5-5 positions, yet he manages to execute them with considerable skill. However, Kurata notes that Yashiro’s technical strength is insufficient for such high-level maneuvers, a limitation clearly exposed during his crushing defeat against the superior Hikaru, which occurred after he opened with a 5-5 move.
