Kurosaki, Hisoka
Summary
Born on October 18, 1980, Hisoka Kurosaki appears as a sixteen-year-old youth with sandy blonde hair and green eyes, possessing AB blood type. He serves as a Guardian of Death, operating within the body of a teenager despite being a Shinigami. Hisoka is defined by his profound empathy, a spiritual ability that enables him to perceive the emotions of others, read their thoughts, view their memories, and extract clairvoyant impressions from inanimate objects. Raised in a traditional household, Hisoka was trained in classic Japanese martial arts. However, his family feared his innate spiritual powers, deeming them abnormal and unsuitable for their heir, as well as a threat that could expose their family secrets. Consequently, he was punished by being confined to a cellar whenever he was caught using his abilities or during specific significant days. At age thirteen, on a spring night unable to sleep, Hisoka wandered beneath sakura trees and witnessed an ongoing murder. The perpetrator, Muraki Kazutaka, discovered him, raped him, and cursed him to a slow, painful demise that would drain his life over three years, justified by Muraki’s belief that "a beautiful boy deserves a beautiful death." Muraki later revealed to Tsuzuki that he could have simply killed Hisoka to create a second victim but chose to prolong the suffering through the curse, which manifested as an incurable illness. This curse leaves visible red marks and symbols across Hisoka’s body, appearing only when Muraki is nearby or active. It is implied that the curse will only vanish upon Muraki’s actual death. Following his death, Hisoka became a Shinigami to investigate the circumstances of his own passing, as he had no memory of the incident; it was later discovered that Muraki had sealed Hisoka’s memories to conceal his crimes. In Meifu, Hisoka was paired with Tsuzuki. He is an avid reader who frequently spends time alone in the library. His physical condition remains poor even in the afterlife, making him prone to fainting from heat, sleep deprivation, or alcohol consumption. He lacks physical strength due to an inability to build muscle effectively, yet he compensates with sharp deductive skills and cunning in subterfuge. While Hisoka appears cold and reserved, he harbors deep compassion for others. He notably comforted Tsuzuki during his suicidal episodes, effectively saving him from self-destruction. Despite Tsuzuki’s irritating habits, Hisoka feels a strong urge to care for him. He maintains amicable relations with most coworkers, excluding Saya and Yuma, who persistently treat him like a doll. Beyond his empathic powers, Hisoka has received training in basic ofuda and defensive magic from Chief Konoe. Later in the series, he seeks a Shikigami to augment his capabilities. His first Shikigami is Riko, a Spanish-speaking potted cactus that serves as a defensive, water-type Shiki. Additionally, Hisoka remains proficient in traditional martial arts, particularly excelling in archery and kendo.
