Summary
Although he was a conventional military surgeon, Dr. Knox was among the physicians dispatched to Ishval as pathologists to study the physiological impacts of burns and agony on human subjects, using Ishvalans as experimental subjects. He grew intimately familiar with the Flame Alchemist's combat style while serving as the specialist tasked with dissecting the corpses of Ishvalans killed by Roy. Following the war, Knox persisted in practicing pathology and forensics, convinced that he had forfeited his right to heal the living. Even after returning from the front lines, he began to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, manifesting as insomnia, nightmares, and flashbacks of the Ishval conflict. He has a grown son and an ex-wife.
