Summary
Dee Laytner is a dark-haired American police officer who dislikes troublemakers, a stance that is ironic given his own reputation as one. His demeanor shifts abruptly between boisterous and inappropriate to serious and calm. Although he can be moody, he deeply cares for those around him. He is in love with Ryo, having dated women in the past, but maintains that while he likes various types of women, Ryo is the only perfect man for him to love. Though Dee appears rude and intrusive, he adheres to a strict code of honor that prevents him from taking advantage of others, even though his behavior often falls outside social norms. He claims to hate children yet understands Bikky’s motives well, frequently playing the role of the wicked uncle when Ryo attempts to discipline the unruly boy. Dee is fiercely protective of both Carol and Bikky and is well-liked by the children residing at the orphanage where he and his childhood friend Tommy grew up. The surname Laytner is fictional; the cop who found Dee in an alleyway was named Jess Latener. Viewing Jess as a father figure despite his flaws, Dee took a similar name out of pride. Dee is currently searching for stability in his life.
