Summary
Dr. Schumann served as a physician in a small German town, having previously worked at a large hospital in one of the country’s wealthy cities. His decision to relocate to the countryside was driven by the realization that he had not become the doctor he wished to be, prompting him to offer his services to an underserved community. His past life in the city mirrored the trajectory that Tenma was expected to follow before meeting Johan. Schumann had ingratiated himself with the hospital director, authored numerous papers, and married the director’s daughter. However, his obsession with climbing the social ladder caused him to overlook the fact that his wife’s liver was failing, leading to her death.
