Yukimura, Tokine
Summary
Tokine is a sixteen-year-old Kekkaishi and the twenty-second member of the Yukimura family. She bears a scar on her right hand, a wound she sustained while protecting Yoshimori during their childhood. Although she possesses exceptional accuracy and precision, her Kekkai are notably weak and can only be sustained for brief durations, lacking the brute power characteristic of Yoshimori’s barriers. Initially, she attempted to compensate for this weakness by adopting Masamori’s technique of stacking multiple barriers around a target, but this approach drained her stamina too quickly, rendering it unsuitable for her. She eventually developed a method of refining her barriers into narrow spears capable of impaling and imprisoning enemies, effectively offsetting her lack of raw strength. Tokine also demonstrates the ability to manipulate barriers and space, a skill evident when she alters Yoshimori’s barrier to pass through it and later when she uses a kidnapper’s portal to enter the dimension created by a member of the Yagyou. While she is deeply impressed by Yoshimori’s power and potential, she is frequently frustrated by his poor control and lazy attitude. She cares for him deeply, having protected him numerous times in the past, and enjoys teasing him, remaining unaware of his romantic feelings for her. As the series progresses, she begins to display deeper affection, evidenced by her violent reaction when he leaves to fight Kaguro and her subsequent actions when he departs for Okuni without her. Despite being considered the weakest Kekkaishi, she is described as the most ruthless, a trait she exhibits even when disregarding the health of Hachiouji Kemiya during his possession or using forbidden metsu against a Shinyuuchi god that invaded Karasumori. Her only major fear is cockroaches.
