Summary
Nanami Kiryuu is the younger sister of Touga and serves as the quintessential queen bee of their school. She holds an intense affection for her brother that carries a semi-incestuous undertone, primarily from her perspective. Viewing herself as superior, she frequently launches malicious attacks against students she considers inferior or those she suspects Touga is noticing. Her motivation in duels stems from a desire to protect her brother’s honor, affirm her own self-worth, and validate her bond with Touga. When Touga is injured during a duel with Utena, Nanami temporarily assumes the role of Student Council President, donning a bright yellow uniform to match her rose color. In combat, she employs a dual-wielding style using a scimitar as her primary weapon and a dagger as a main-gauche. The anime features several standalone filler episodes dedicated to her, which break the series' usual format. These episodes utilize metaphorical themes to portray her character sympathetically but are largely gag-oriented and notorious for their bizarre content. In contrast, Nanami is not a main character in the manga, appearing only once in an illustration with Touga.
