Summary

Jinbe is a whale shark fishman who served as the second captain of the Sunny Pirates following Fisher Tiger and attained the title of Shichibukai eight years ago. His name is derived from jinbei-zame, the Japanese term for whale shark, while his epithet, Kaikyou, is a clever pun. Although it typically translates to "Strait" or "Channel," the kanji used is (海侠の), making the kyou component stem from (任侠), an honorific associated with high-ranking yakuza members. He currently holds the position of Helmsman.
