Enan, Ami

Summary

Ami is the daughter of Enzo Bron, the CEO of the IT conglomerate Shake Hanz Corporation, and his ex-wife, a Japanese woman named Yuko Enan. Her parents divorced amicably when she was very young, resulting in her mother gaining full custody. Tragically, when Ami was six, she was kidnapped by child pornographers who intended to use her as a model and eventually "merchandise" for pedophiles. Upon her daughter's disappearance, Yuko committed suicide after malevolent rumors falsely blamed her for the tragedy. Despite her tender age, Ami possessed an unusually well-developed aptitude for computer programming. During her imprisonment, she used a discarded computer to create her own game to pass the time. When the gangsters noticed this talent, they kept her captive to exploit her skills for profit. One of her major achievements during this period was establishing the darkweb site Marco Polo and its associated transaction and payment system. At the age of 14, Ami escaped her captors and took refuge in the server bank center known as the Twin Towers. Her lifelong forced seclusion made her melancholic and wary of the "real world," leading her to prefer solitude and interact with the outside world solely through the internet, mostly via her homemade interface module "Underworld." This isolation began to change when Lupin III and his associates Jigen and Goemon started investigating Marco Polo to steal its ill-gotten wealth. They tracked Ami down to obtain the site's pass codes. After witnessing Lupin's thieving skills, she asked him to "steal" her from her squalid living conditions in the Twin Towers in exchange for helping him rob Marco Polo. Although Lupin’s plan succeeded, Marco Polo’s administrators sought revenge by offering a substantial bounty for his death. This triggered a worldwide manhunt involving both Interpol and professional assassins, aided by indifferent users posting sightings of Lupin online. Throughout the chase, Ami was repeatedly endangered and even wounded, but she eventually found the excitement exhilarating, which helped her open her heart to the outside world. She also came to view Lupin as a reliable and caring guardian, trusting him beyond their initial business arrangement. After Marco Polo was taken down by Lupin and Zenigata, Ami enrolled in a girls' boarding school to experience a normal life and forge real friendships. Initially, Ami struggled to connect with her fellow students due to her continued use of hacking skills, which marked her as an outsider. This dynamic shifted when Dolma Sinha, the crown princess of the southeast Asian country of Padar, enrolled. Understanding the princess’s eccentric yet benevolent nature, the two girls quickly became close friends. However, the school was later occupied by a terrorist group calling itself the Whales of Liberation. Ami, known to the terrorists, was singled out and held in solitary confinement until she was freed by Fujiko Mine, who had infiltrated the school to retrieve Dolma’s jewel, the Bloody Teardrop, one of Padar’s national treasures. The two women teamed up to liberate the school, independently assisted by Lupin’s gang, who had noticed the terrorist takeover on their own. Shortly after, Dolma was spirited away by McQuire, an American Secret Service Agent.
