Summary

Suruga Kanbaru is the titular protagonist of the Suruga Monkey arc and serves as an underclassman to Koyomi Araragi. She is a celebrated star of her school’s girls basketball team, a role that propelled the squad to rapid success and made her a household name within the student body. An acquaintance of Hitagi Senjougahara from their junior high days, Suruga openly identifies as a lesbian, a fujoshi, a lolicon, and a masochist. Her pastimes revolve around reading yaoi literature and playing basketball. Despite her clear preference for women, she interacts comfortably with men, often exchanging teasing remarks with Koyomi once a rapport is established. Physically, she stands at 160cm, with dark bluish hair and brown eyes. Her rigorous training as a varsity athlete has given her a toned, athletic build, though she has self-deprecatingly noted to Koyomi that her bust size is insufficient to warrant his attention. Suruga’s fashion sense mirrors her tomboyish demeanor; outside of her Naoetsu Private High School uniform, she typically favors sleeveless tops and shorts. Notably, she consistently wears cycling shorts as her underwear, a revelation that shocked Koyomi by implying she goes without panties. As of the Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season, she is 18 years old, having been 17 at the beginning of her story. Her birthday falls on May 9.
