Shokatsu, Kouan
Summary
Shokatsu Kouan first appears in Battle 95. He is a Sei practitioner who utilizes the Katsujin Ken style and specializes in Chinese Kenpo (Chuō Jiǎo). As a disciple of Ma Ryou (Hakubi), he serves as the partner of Ryuu Genson. Distinguished by his glasses and suspenders, Shokatsu acts as the more composed and courteous counterpart to his companion. Although he possesses diplomatic skills, he remains just as prepared to employ physical force when necessary. Shokatsu and Ryuu are dispatched by Hakubi to retrieve his grandniece, Ma Renka. Their pursuit leads to a confrontation with Kenichi at a water park, where Shokatsu is unexpectedly overwhelmed by Kenichi’s leg strength and is knocked to the ground. Following the defeat, both martial artists apologize for their aggressive tactics and clarify their mission. Shokatsu, being the more amiable of the two, openly commends their strength before departing with Renka to return to Hakubi. Later in the Yami arc, Shokatsu and Ryuu accompany Renka as escorts during her first day at Kouryuu High. They encounter a Chinese master but, with assistance from Takeda Ikki, secure an easy victory.
