Your Name Returns in 4K as Its 10th-Anniversary Theatrical Run Opens

A decade after it rewired the global anime map, Your Name. is back on the big screen. GKIDS has opened a nationwide North American theatrical run of Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 CoMix Wave Films smash in a new 4K remaster, with showtimes starting August 14 in both the original Japanese with English subtitles and the English dub.
The limited anniversary engagement is built for rediscovery as much as nostalgia: the remaster is meant to sharpen the film’s signature cityscapes, countryside skies, and RADWIMPS-driven set pieces for audiences who only ever knew it on streaming or aging Blu-rays. Tickets have been live at major chains, and a fresh trailer has been circulating ahead of the re-release.
Home viewers get a second beat almost immediately. A first-for-North-America 4K Ultra HD Steelbook and Blu-ray, distributed with Shout! Studios, is due August 25—another anniversary push for a title that remains the highest-grossing original Japanese animated feature, with worldwide earnings past $400 million.
For a generation that met Mitsuha and Taki on phones and laptops, the 4K return is less a reissue than a reminder of why the film still owns the conversation around modern anime cinema.
