Tatsunoko Locks Staff for Giant Ojō-sama, Winter 2027 Debut

Tatsunoko Production just put a face—and a full production desk—on its long-awaited adaptation of Nikumura Q’s oversized comedy Giant Ojō-sama. The studio opened the official site with a new teaser visual, locked a January 2027 premiere, and named Hiroshi Ikehata (Witch Watch, TONIKAWA) as director, signaling a comedy-forward approach from a house better known for flashy action and tokusatsu-adjacent spectacle.
Backing Ikehata is assistant director Katsuya Oshima, character designer and chief animation director Hajime Mitsuda, and series composition/script duties from Yū Satō. The package is pure studio news: a clear pipeline from Sunday Webry’s web hit to a winter TV slot, with cast still TBA and volume 12 of the manga due August 10 as the adaptation ramps up.
The premise is pure chaos. Oriko Fujido, heiress gifted an entire city as a child, chugs a butler-brewed giantification drink whenever invaders threaten her kingdom—and usually flattens half the skyline in the process. With character designs for Oriko and Dr. Sebastian already rolling out and comments from both Nikumura and Ikehata on the official channels, Tatsunoko is treating this less like a quiet side project and more like a winter-season centerpiece.
