Netflix Locks Sept. 29 Worldwide Exclusive for Mononoke's Serpent Finale

The Medicine Seller's last round inside the Inner Chambers now has a global streaming date. Netflix confirmed it will carry Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III – The Curse of the Serpent worldwide as an exclusive on September 29, pairing the lock with a main trailer and new key art. The film's official X account billed the window as a world exclusive, with a 42-day countdown already running.

The 87-minute picture closes a three-chapter Ōoku saga that opened with Mononoke the Movie: The Phantom in the Rain in 2024 and continued through Mononoke the Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage in 2025 — both already on the service. Each film climbs a different rung of palace rank, from a newly arrived maid to the elite concubines, and now to the Midaidokoro, the highest-ranking woman in the court. After Japanese theaters opened the finale on May 29, this is the first time most international viewers will see the serpent-god climax.

Chief director Kenji Nakamura and director Tomoaki Koshida return, with Yasumi Atarashi on the script, animation by Studio Kafka and EOTA, and Twin Engine as distributor. Hiroshi Kamiya again voices the nameless Medicine Seller, joined by Atsumi Tanezaki, Miyuki Sawashiro, and a deep supporting bench. AiNA THE END contributes the theme "No Epilogue."

The films remix the 2000s television Mononoke — itself spun out of Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales — into ukiyo-e-soaked horror about passions that curdle into specters. Anyone still catching up can binge the first two chapters before September 29, when the Sacred Sword has to name the snake god's Shape, Truth, and Reason.
