Madhouse Locks Cast as Shingo Natsume’s Ghost Film Drops Third Teaser

Legendary animation house Madhouse just put fresh heat behind its next original theatrical project. The official site for ghost – end of night (also known as Ghost: Yoru no Hate) dropped a third teaser trailer this week and named the two leads who will carry the film when it opens in Japan on February 11, 2027.

Mayu Hotta steps in as Nike, a sharp, lonely teen already “sorted” as essential in a near-future society that no longer needs most people to work. Issei Takahashi plays Masu, a quiet figure marked by loss who drifts into Nike’s orbit at an observatory that guards a virtual starry sky. The teaser also previews insert track “Sugar” from alt-rock band hitsujibungaku, who are writing a full slate of six songs for the movie—including the theme.

Production remains firmly in Madhouse’s hands. Shingo Natsume (Sonny Boy, One-Punch Man, Space Dandy) directs and scripts his first original feature-length film, with character designs adapted by longtime collaborator Norifumi Kugai from original concepts by manga artist Natsume Ono (ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept.). Score duties fall to Oozora Kimishima, while Bandai Namco Filmworks handles distribution.

For a studio still riding waves from Frieren and Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, this original marks a deliberate creative swing: Natsume’s trademark surreal mood meeting Madhouse’s theatrical pedigree. The new reel doesn’t spoil the ending Nike chooses—but it makes the February 2027 date feel a lot closer.
