Kodansha USA Locks Spring 2027 Print Wave at SDCC With Subaru and Subaru

Kodansha USA used San Diego Comic-Con to unload another Spring 2027 print wave, expanding the licenses it already teased at Anime Expo. The headliner for racing fans is Subaru and Subaru, Shuichi Shigeno’s latest spin through the world that began with Initial D and roared on through MF Ghost—two drivers named Subaru now chase MFG glory a year after Kanata Rivington’s circuit run.

Sci-fi readers get equally heavy artillery. Gamon Sakurai (Ajin: Demi-Human) brings The POOL, a wormhole-planet survival thriller about a security chief leading her squad and stranded miners through an alien deathtrap. Kraken Mare (story by IZU, art by Hagane) throws scavengers and a church spy against black-hole leviathans, while Meaheim and the dark fairy-tale rework Rega in the Sleeping Forest cover cosmic-horror fantasy and corrupted Sleeping Beauty action.

The slate isn’t all monsters and engines. Kodansha is packaging The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity volumes 1–6 in a pastry-box-style set with exclusive art cards, plus all-ages yokai one-shot The Cat and Dog’s Nine-Tailed Lives and single-volume yuri and BL comedies I Love You, Please Dump Me and I Loved Him First!. Physical editions hit bookstores and major online retailers in Spring 2027, with select digital drops across BookWalker, Kindle, Apple Books, and kodansha.us.
