Fairy-Tale Detective Anime Red Riding Hood Locks 2027 Debut

Forget cookies and wine—this Little Red Riding Hood trip starts with a body. Pony Canyon has opened the official site for a television anime of Aito Aoyagi’s comedy-mystery novel Akazukin, Tabi no Tochuu de Shitai to Deau. (also known as Red Riding Hood: A Detective Story / Once Upon a Crime), confirming a 2027 premiere alongside a teaser visual and first promo.

Yume Miyamoto leads as Akazukin (Little Red Riding Hood), with Akira Sekine as Pinocchio. Itsurou Kawasaki directs and writes the scripts at studio BENTEN Film; character design is shared by Manami Minakata and Yuuko Yahiro, with art direction from Izumi Hoki and Hiroshi Katou among the announced core staff.

Aoyagi’s Futabasha novel series launched in August 2020 (volume four arrived July 2025). Kanoka Tana’s manga ran from 2023 through May 2025 across Monthly Action and Web Action, wrapping in four volumes with roughly 600,000 copies in print. The setup flips the classic path story into a whodunit where fairy-tale fixtures—from Cinderella to Hansel and Gretel—bring their own twists as Red tries to untangle a larger puzzle.

With site, cast, crew, and teaser package already live, the adaptation is positioned as a full 2027 slate entry rather than a vague “in production” tease—worth pinning if twisted fairytale mysteries are your lane.
