Best Sports Anime of 1986

The team known as the Kickers represents their school in football, but they have consistently failed to achieve victory. Everything changes when Gregor (Daichi Kakeru) transfers to the school following a particularly crushing defeat. His arrival sparks renewed determination among the players, motivating them to break free from their losing streak. The Kickers' main rivals are the Devils, and Gregor immediately announces his desire to face them. Yet football is not their only focus; off the field, the team—especially Captain Mario (Hongou Masaru)—enjoys building camaraderie and spending time together, despite the constant attention from Mario's female admirers.

Hikari is a young school girl who dreams of becoming a great rhythmic gymnastics champion like her idol, Diliana Gueorguiva. Despite facing setbacks during her performances, she works hard and eventually joins her school's rhythmic gymnastics team with the help and support of Takaaki Oiishi, the best male gymnast at her school. As they spend time together, Hikari develops feelings for him. However, she is not the only one interested in Oiishi; Bazuki Shiina, the top gymnast in the entire school, also harbors feelings for him. A friendship begins to form between Hikari and Shiina, but it is quickly complicated by a rivalry that grows both in their pursuit of gymnastics excellence and their mutual affection for Oiishi. Furthermore, Hikari finds herself torn between her feelings for Oiishi and her conflicting emotions toward Mao Natsukawa, an old childhood friend and the lead singer of the band Mr. D. Mao composes the music Hikari uses for her performances and has been developing feelings for her since childhood.

In the fourth film, the classic rivalry between Japan and Europe expands to a worldwide stage. Four squads participate in this tournament: Japan, the United States, "All Europe," and "All South America." Japan defeats the US in the first match 3-0. Meanwhile, South America edges out Europe 3-2 in their game. The final pits Japan against South America, who unveil their "soccer cyborg," Carlos Santana—a seemingly unstoppable player. Despite this, Japan’s signature moves, like Hyuga's "Tiger Shot" and Tsubasa's "Top Spin," prove ineffective at first. However, after an intense and spectacular battle, the Japanese squad learns to work together in perfect unison and eventually secures the win.

The OAV opens with a tag-team match between the graceful members of Dream Team and the Foxy Ladies, who sport thick face paint. As expected, Dream Team gets thoroughly beaten, though one of them nearly manages to hoist a 250-pound Foxy Lady overhead. Stepping in for them are Eri and Miki from the Wanna-Be's squad. Eri and Miki are carefree young women just looking to enjoy themselves, but when they start training under the enigmatic Kidou Corporation—the very organization that prepared the Dream Team—they realize there's more to their regimen than meets the eye.

The film compiles scenes from the second year of Touch's story, yet its plot has little connection to the events of that year in the main series.

Ikkiman is a superhuman alien, though he is unaware of this fact. He was raised on a farm by an elderly couple. After his girlfriend leaves him to pursue a career as a star, Ikkiman vows to become an even greater superstar than her so they can reunite, prompting him to leave the farm for the city. There, he interrupts a match of the Battle-ball team called the Blue Planets, who are the Earth's champions in the sport, and chooses to join them using his newly discovered superhuman abilities. With the Blue Planets, Ikkiman will compete against alien opponents for the championship title and for the fate of planet Earth.

Terryman, Robin Mask, and the rest of the Justice Choujins are taking part in a tournament held in New York. Out of nowhere, Akuma Shogun (who is distinct from the character seen in the main series) appears, overpowers every Justice Choujin, and drains their powers—leaving out only Kinnikuman, who showed up late because he was too busy scarfing down gyuudon. Now Kinnikuman has to take on Akuma Shogun, who wields the combined might of all the defeated Justice Choujins.

In this installment of Kinnikuman, Iron Mask captures Meat-kun. To rescue him, Kinnikuman must retrieve the treasure from Inmora Island, hidden inside the Seven Story Tower and guarded by the formidable Senshi Choujins. Although Kinnikuman appeals to Terryman and the other Seigi Choujins for help, they surprisingly refuse. Unfazed, Kinnikuman heads to Inmora Island alone, where he battles the overwhelming forces of the Senshi Choujins and finds himself heavily outnumbered.

In this 1986 film adaptation of the golf manga and anime series Pro Golfer Saru, the story unfolds at the whimsical Super Golf World theme park. There, Saru competes against the globe's top golfers in a tournament constantly monitored by the enigmatic Mr. X.
